Cataract is the leading cause of bilateral blindness in India. It has been reported that cataract is responsible for 50-80% of the bilaterally blind in the country. Cataract formation is a natural part of the ageing process. Even though vision lost due to cataract can be restored through a simple and minor procedure, it still remains one of the significant causes of preventable blindness. Since the establishment of Jyothis Eye Care Hospital, cataract consultation and surgeries have been a part of its services.

FACILITIES
The state-of-the-art facilities available include higher end Phacoemulsification systems (Centurien and FEMTO) which enable us to perform Phacoemulsification (Micro incision suture less surgery) under topical anaesthesia. Microscopes (Lumera and Lumira 300) which help in decreasing intra operative complications, Surgical instruments which help in minimal post operative refractive errors, Appa YAG laser to treat posterior capsular opacification occuring after cataract surgery, Zeiss IOL master 700 to accurately calculate intra ocular lens powers in normal eyes and in eyes with pre existing problems (High myopes & Post retina surgeries), Specular microscope & Pachymetry which allow us to select the correct surgical options for the patients & digital slit lamp photography unit and Contrast sensitivity testing equipment are the special equipment available.
All types of cataract surgeries including refractive cataract surgeries (Toric, Pseudoaccomodative lenses, LRI ) and complex cataract surgeries are performed by competent surgeons. Majority of the cataract surgeries are performed using phacoemulsification technique.
